Mission - E - Safai

Mission-E-Safai, the largest youth-led initiative for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan – Clean India Mission was founded by Mr. Himadrish Suwan in 2015 while he was pursuing his undergrad at the University of Delhi inspired by the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi for a Swachh Bharat:  

The initiative associated more than 51 Universities in India and religious places for ensuring to maintain a cleaner and greener India through active cooperation with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the Municipal Corporation, and Environment Societies based out various colleges and institutions in India. Under this flagship initiative, students from more than 51 universities held weekly cleanliness drives, felicitation of sanitation workers, and knowledge enhancement workshops in the nearest locality & slum area. 
 
The initiative included cleanliness drives including Swachh Slum,Swachh Dilli, WASH Initiative, Save Fuel, Save Earth, Swachh Campus Drive, Ek Video Swachhta Ki Aur (in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India), International Friendship Promotion and Development Plantation Drive to name a few. The success of the initiative was taught during the preparation for India’s Civil Services Examination and Several Academic Papers. 
 
The campaign drew wide attention from the political and academic circles of India including from the Office of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi.
 
After receiving the coveted Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Award in 2018 by Union Minister, Hon’ble Shri Narendra Tomar; Mr. Himadrish Suwan was quoted by the Times of India saying: “The idea and the light behind the initiative was none other than the Prime Minister himself because since my childhood I have always heard about personal hygiene but only after 2nd October 2014 I came to know about the concept of Social Hygiene with the launch of the SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAAN programme. Hence, I dedicate this award to none other than the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India who inspires me each and every day”.

Hon’ble Shri. The Swachhagrahis (Unsung Heroes) Honoured and Felicitated for the First Time by Mission-E-Safai

Mission-E-Safai hosted the National Summit on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) on 25th October 2017 at the Multipurpose Hall, India International Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

“Swachhagrahi Samaan Samaroh” was a unique effort to recognize and honour the noble unsung individuals – who have made on-ground commendable efforts in Swachhta. During the “Samaan Samaroh” — 50 unsung heroes from all the four Municipal Corporation of Delhi who were engaged in on-ground sanitation / manual scavenging service were accorded due respect as a unique gesture.

The national convention was organized to provide a platform for the exchange of best practices in the implementation of effective and efficient solutions to challenges – such as manual scavenging, waste management, and green energy conservation.

The summit was inaugurated by Hon’ble Union Minister, Government of India Shri Jual Oram as well as Hon’ble Member of the Indian Parliament Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi, former Governor of Chattisgarh Dr. Shekhar Dutt, IAS, Padma Vibhusan Dr. Sonal Mansingh, Padma Bhushan Dr.Bindeshwar Pathak, Mayor, EDMC Smt. Neema Bhagat, Leader of House, SDMC Smt. Shikha Rai, Leader of House NDMC Shri Jayant Dabs, Member of the New Delhi Municipal Council Shri Abdul Rashid Ansari, Chief Imam of India Dr. Imaam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, Shri Himadrish Suwan, Founder, Mission-E-Safai and Chairperson of the Confederation of Young Leaders & diplomats from several friendly nations.

A follow-up convention was organized in 2018 and 2019 with a larger impact and similar objective. However, owing to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Mission-E-Safai, couldn’t organize the convention in 2020 and 2021.
